This branch of the PETRA III web-site presents information about the experiments and the properties of the photon beams in general.
The upgrade of PETRA will offer a number of undulator beamlines with unprecedented brilliance (see workpackage "insertion devices").
One undulator will be up to 20 m long. The remaining eight straight sections are 5 m long, allowing for one 5 m ID or two 2 m IDs, canted by 5 mrad.
14 independent undulator beams will be available for users. According to the current planning first beam is expected early 2009. A list of the experiments recommended by our advisory committees can be found here:

The new experiments of phase I will be constructed in a 280 m long experimental hall located in the NE arc of PETRA. In a later stage beamlines may be added in other locations around the ring.
